Do you work with freelancers? Have you ever felt that at times they lie to you or share some less-true facts?
Your intuition is right!
Freelancers have some common lies that you might hear every now & then.
Blame the nature of this profession, Freelancers are their own boss. They do what they like and at their own will. Since freelancing is the only mode of income for the freelancers, they tend to lie at times in order to earn a little extra. It would not be justified to say that the sole reason behind lying is money. Sometimes, they do it just to save themselves from awkward situations.
Well, not all freelancers are the same. But lying makes the honest ones look bad too. Acting like fishes who spoil the pond, these freelancers do it for different reasons. They do it and they are not proud of doing so.
Here are 7 lies freelancers tell their clients without getting caught. Check out the reasons too.
LIE 1.
This excuse simply implies that the freelancer is avoiding to deal with the current scenario, whatever the reason be. Freelancers tend to enjoy their personal space. They are not bound to reply to a mail immediately or even within 24 hours. And if you hear this excuse, either it is a mere bargain of time or they are not interested.
LIE 2.
Sometimes, freelancers quote high saying “I had to quote high because of the time I’ll need to write this.” True, it is not easy to estimate how long will it take to complete a certain project. But procrastinating work is not for what you should be paying. Pay for the writer’s skills, experience, reputation and ability to get results. Find the one who would be able to justify rates with hours and quality.
LIE 3.
There are times when freelancers complete your project without even looking at the material provided by you. The reason may be either they don’t have the time or what you shared wasn’t relevant according to them. Or even they could have been a bit lazy. But they won’t admit. Ever!
LIE 4.
Why? Why is this even necessary? These probably are the most involuntary questions that pop in your mind being a client. Freelancers ask this to make the most out of you and your marketing budget. On the other hand, this can also be the way to get the rates lower as their desired rates. Good writers usually don’t ask for your budget beforehand.
LIE 5.
So human of them! And this really works. This psychological manipulative statement makes you want the writer more. If you wish to save your money and see results, pick those who do not use such statements to leave an impression.
LIE 6.
Every good copywriter knows that every copy has its specific target audience. A good copy is written in a way that it reaches a specific set of people in the desired manner. This approach assures sales. Go with the one who is keen to learn about your target market. Results will be fruitful!
LIE 7.
Confidence is good, but overconfidence is never good. Self confidence in skills and knowledge can be easily communicated without being told to another person. Good writers don’t need words to support them, they’ll have their work speak for them.

If you are a writer reading this, don’t be furious. You are a better judge to assess yourself, at least now. And if you are a content seeker, these 7 lies that freelancers tell you without getting caught must have been an eye opener.
