Freelancers are one of their kind. They give up everything to pursue their passion. Hats off!
We might not always get them straight, but when we do, we love them for their courage, passion, and dedication. They are beautiful, playful and cheerful in their own way.
You date a freelancer, sooner or later you realize that you two live in two entirely different worlds. Your lifestyle doesn’t match with theirs and their living habits don’t seem social to you. Do they? When you like someone and they turn out to be a freelancer, there are things to be prepared for. Here are the realities of dating a freelancer. Gruesome or awesome, its better you take a call on that.
- They think they are awesome.
Just like Barney Stinson, every freelancer thinks he/she is AWESOME.
- They’re the boss.
They are their own boss. At least they think so! Freelancers might not have one single boss anymore, but they still have to deliver work to different clients making them kind-of-boss.
- They always live in their pyjama-comfy zone.
Freelancers’ work-from-home occupation does this to them. They really DON’T dress for work. Can you picture the sender of those professional-sounding emails? They are the ones in pyjamas and bunny slippers and with food munchies all around.
- Their work is always interesting.
They are passionate about what they do. And it becomes really enticing for others too. Flexible working hours, cool working environment, no formal dress code and what not! A freelancer enjoys everything that a white collar employee always fantasizes.
- For them, freelancing is less stressful than working for someone else.

Happy, smiling young couple relaxing on couch at home. Calm, carefree man and woman resting with arms behind head. Healthy relationship.
Feeling king of the world, the freelancers feel proud in having to no longer deal with office bureaucracy. They have all the time in the world to earn money at their own pace, as per their own will. Bravo!
- What they do is inspiring!
It really is! It is respectful that freelancers are brave enough to take up freelancing as a career as it is a high risk taking/rewarding attempt.
- They are never really off duty.
There is no in or out time for our dear freelancers. They have to be on their feet 24×7 to meet all the client requirements.
- They are open to vacations & holidays. Bring it on!
Planning holidays with your freelancer partner is always a win-win. It becomes easier as they are available always and forever.
- They can work from any location. Anytime and anywhere!
Freelancers tend to always bring work with them. Harsh but true! They can typically bring work to anywhere as they can work and live almost anywhere.
- They make you their plus one for a lot of events.
Beware! Be prepared to be a part of their work itinerary. They count you in for accompanying them to work-related events. Even if you don’t want to go, you have to be there by their side, for their happiness.
- They prefer working alone.
You like it or not, when they tend to work, they prefer being alone.
- They have a lot of free time to spare. Not always!
For a freelancer, weekdays and weekends are usually same. They are heartless human beings with whom you cannot share the joy of next day being a Saturday. They are not even excited that tomorrow’s a national or an international holiday. At times, every day is a holiday and every day is a weekday for them.
- They reply late because they are busy.
Please excuse them if they respond late to your texts or calls. It’s not that they are not interested. Often freelancers lose track of time as they are just really caught up with their deliverable.
- They are unpredictable and spontaneous.
True story! You can never guess what they are up to next. Well trained with real life experiences, they are the best advisors for handling life’s conditions and multitasking.
We all know freedom comes with a price. These unexpected realities are just that price that you pay to date a freelancer. Every cloud has a silver lining. You shall find yours too.
Even if it took you forever to manage your life around them, you are left with no option but to embrace their erratic career choice. Don’t you worry! At the end of the day, it’s the person who matters the most. If they are ‘the one’, you got to support them in whatever makes them happy.
Happy dating!
