Kratom DEA Ban - A Vile Act of Hypocrisy - Part 3

After the petition, countless ex opiate addicts have shared their hellish personal stories with the press and the public, glorifying kratom as the ultimate addiction cure - essentially calling the plant their savior, a substance that has helped them kick their addiction like no other. Some have even drawn parallels between kratom and maintenance drugs such as methadone, which is often prescribed to drug addicts, as a substitute for hard drugs. Methadone, however, is highly addicting and many ex addicts agree that kicking heroin is nothing compared to kicking methadone, supposedly a "cure for addiction". Studies have confirmed that kratom leaves contain precious chemicals that have a significant impact on the human organism, reducing pain, improving cardiovascular health, boosting energy, mood and the immune system. Why are pro-ban advocates wrong? To put it simply, almost any substance on earth can be abused to the point of causing mental and physical health issues. Isn't caffeine addictive? Doesn't nicotine cause addiction too? How come kratom is being thought of as a legal high and not as a legitimate opiod alternative and a beneficially healing herbal remedy? Clearly, a contradiction. It isn't only heroin and opiate addicts that have found rescue in kratom. Pain medicine is being prescribed left and right, housewives, doctors, lawyers - upstanding citizens of society are getting hooked on and addicted to synthetic painkillers without the DEA batting an eye. Possible Consequences - A Paradigm Shift One can't help but conclude. The DEA's attempt to ban kratom is a vile act of hypocrisy. But, the fact that the DEA has, for once, been affected by what the public has to say is an important precedent. Even though pro-kratom advocates remain skeptical and expect to hear more about this issue from the DEA, the fact that such a swift paradigm shift has occurred in our schizophrenic society goes to show that we are indeed on the bring of a new era. An era in which we will fight for the right to ingest substances that have been used on the East, for centuries. What will come out of the kratom DEA ban and this entire saga remains to be seen, but we can already assume that, no matter what the final decision of the DEA is, the way we view substances and herbal remedies will never be the same again. Will DEA attempt to ban kratom again? Judging by what they have done in past, we can expect them to try and do so in the near future. Which substances will be legalized, which criminalized and which will remain legal also remains to be seen. We can only hope that the people in the DEA will finally come to their senses and accept traditional herbal remedies as something that can aid the humanity, instead of harming it. Something that can cure addiction, instead of causing it.
